My Life in Beijing

Three years ago, I decided to go to Beijing for studying Chinese language only for one year. I entered Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) located in Wu Dao Kou, Haidian District. Technically, I only spent like 8 months there, 1 semester 4 months, and holiday around 2 months.
I've always wanted to study abroad, but after finishing my Bachelor degree I lost my motivation to continue my study further, while studying English had been my option since I always wanted to go to experience that America life. But, while my English is not perfect, I found it quite a waste of money to spend so much for something that I could understand most of it.

So, I decided to study Chinese language as they said the demand for people who can speak Chinese is high now.

Here's some of the highlight of my life here in Beijing !

Pollution time in Beijing. The very first friend I made in Beijing.

Chinese Calligraphy Class, this class was optional for every students. There's even another people from other schools joining this class secretly. I only went to this class one since I started to join the Calligraphy club for one semester.

My 1st semester classmates

It's always fascinating to wear a traditional costume

Tour Travelmates, our last night of the trip and it's quite a wild one

Camel riding in Inner Mongolia

First concert playing Gu Zheng, I love this Chinese instrument, and regret so much that I only learn this for one semester

Dinner made by the Italians with le classmates

Culture Day at the Campus

All Thais except me

Tour to the Great Wall with all the new Foreign Students

You didn't go to Beijing if you don't eat Peking Duck.

Thissss is one of my local comfort food, the highlight is truly the peanut sauce. There's is also peanut sauce noodle, and it's better than the one in that popular Chinese chain restaurant. I only knew about this food near the end of my term :(

Another comfort food from the campus' canteen, Ma La Xiang Guo ! I used to order this every Sunday whenever I only stayed around the campus.

I have this addiction towards "HuTong" , a type of narrow street or alley commonly associated with norther Chinese cities, especially in Beijing. I can just walk around there (it's very big and have a lot of different streets, some are popular for tourists' destination), whenever I need time off. Like even this super simple, normal alley without any decoration but I found it very pretty and just so aesthetic lol. My close friend, also a foreigner, found it amusing, she's like "What's there to see?". But in Hutong, you can found hidden treasures (cafes, vintage stores, camera stores, there's a lot of vintage and polaroid camera even toy camera , even high end traditional cafes) in those narrow alley that not many people knew, and that tickled my adventurer side. One thing that I regret, I haven't ventured the rooftop cafe or bar around the Hutongs.

Ticked off my wishlist. When I was little, I liked to watch "Princess Huanzhu" series (google it!) They like to wear that kind of headpiece lol

I am actually what they called "Hua Yi" a foreigner of Chinese origin, living in Indonesia. Both my ancestors from my Mom and Dad's sides are from China. But nobody will think I'm a Chinese cause I didn't look like one lol. So for me, I didn't have much difficulties living there unlike most of the foreign students, as I was more accustomed with the food taste, habits and other things.
